What is the difference between an orthopedic mattress and a normal?

How often have you heard from various consultants that they sell orthopedic mattresses? Advertising banners and the Internet are full of pictures and inscriptions, encouraging to buy an orthopedic mattress.

Today, every manufacturer of cheap mattresses and expensive, springy and springless, artificial or so-called natural materials claims that their mattresses are orthopedic. They assure you that buying a mattress will get rid of all the problems with the spine, sleep, and health in general.

Let’s find out which mattress is considered orthopedic.

How to distinguish an orthopedic mattress

All right, let’s go…

Orthopedics (from Greek. ortos – correct, direct, and pedia – training, education) is a branch of medicine (section of surgery), that studies the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of deformities and disorders of bone and muscle system functions (thanks to Wikipedia). Accordingly, the mattress wearing this proud title, should have a certain set of characteristics, thanks to which your life will be lighter and the spine will be smooth and healthy. It is a set of characteristics, not a single feature.

Namely:

The mattress should maintain the spine in its natural position without exerting undue pressure (i.e. so that the spine does not sag and bend and the muscles are as relaxed as possible).

It is important to remember that no mattress is able to cure – get rid of already existing problems with the spine, it facilitates coexistence with problems, great for prevention.

Enjoy your sleep on the right mattress!
